I joined the Cubs in 1933, progressed through the scouts
as Sixer , Senior Sixer, Patrol Leader &then into the Rovers & continued Scouting until going into the Army, serving
in the East Yorks Regt during the latter days of the war in Holland & Germany. After the war I was posted to Palestine
Egypt & Sudan until demobilisation. As my family had moved to Blackpool I joined them there in 1947.During my time in
Palestine I had become interested in Zionism, became active the youth movement & in 1951 had a year on a Kibbutz &on
return to Englandhelped in training young people prior to their going on Shnat Sherut giving a year of service to Israel.
In 1952 I became the National Chairman of FZY, married the National Secretary of the movement in 1953 & have remained
happily married, living in London since.
Incidentally my wife Malka is a sister of a lady you will
probably know, Jacquie Fineberg.
Our family has a long association with Scouts & Guides.
My late Father,Barney Labovitch, was in the Leeds troop, a bugler in the band 1916/1917, my Daughter was a Guider in the 60s,
&myGranddaughter carries on the tradition as a 9 year old Brownie.
This all brings back wonderful memories for me.
